Cleaning With Dish Washing Detergent

If you are like many out there, that bottle of dishwashing detergent cleans only the dishes, right? There are plenty of other ways to use this type of cleaning product to get results that are well worth the bit of investment in this cleaning product. Most dish washing detergents are inexpensive. Some are antibacterial now as well. Most will do well on various locations of your home.

Where Can I Clean?

There are several locations around your home that can be cleaned with dish washing detergent. For example, consider cleaning your refrigerator, inside and out with it. You can use it on your floors and avoid the expensive costs of floor cleaning products. This can help you to cut down on the amount of chemicals you need as well. You can also clean walls, the stove and glass products with dish washing detergent.

Basic Formula and Procedure

To use this cleaning chemical for other types of cleaning, just do as you would for the dishes. You need to use only a quarter of a cup of dish washing detergent with a gallon of very hot water to clean. Mix well. Use a clean terry cloth to wash whatever it is that needs cleaning. Rinse with warm water. Dry with a clean cloth. If you are using it on glass, make sure that you use paper towels to shine the glass for a streak free clean.

What About The Automatic Dishwasher Cleaner?

If you have a dishwasher in your home, you may be wondering if you can apply these same things to this cleaner. The good news is that you can. This cleaner is ideal for some of the toughest of stains. To make it work well for you, make sure that you use hot water that allows it to dissolve well. Then, use the same method as above to clean up with it.

It is important to note that anyone that is considering using any of these products for cleaning need to do so only when they are using hot water. The water temperature should be about 130 degrees in order for it to cut through the grease and grim on your products. Hot water should not scald your skin, though.

Also, realize that dishwashing detergents of all types do have a shelf life. If you do not use the product within two weeks of opening up the container, you will probably see a less effective clean on your products.

With the advent of bulk buying, many people are purchasing highly costly products that are cheaper in bulk. But, when you purchase them in this way, you end up not getting the most out of them. Instead of buying in bulk, by smaller and get more use out of it.

Tips For Using Your Dishwasher

  • Always use hot water in your dishwasher. If the water does not reach 130 degrees, consider adding a hot water heater to the dishwasher. This is needed not only for the soap’s effectiveness but also for the ability of the machine to remove bacteria from the dishes.
  • Hard water is a big problem for many. If you have hard water, you will need to use both detergent cups of detergent in your dishwasher. Make sure to use a rinse agent. Also, make sure that you use hard water cleaner inside of your dishwasher whenever there is build up. Hard water is caused by the soil conditions in your area. Using these products can help you to get a good clean even with your hard water.
  • Crystals and glass often face problems in the dishwasher. If you find that your dishwasher is causing a cloudy appearance on your glass products, do this. Place a glass into a soak with vinegar for about five minutes. Remove and look at the glass. If the cloudiness is no longer there, it is likely being caused by hard water. To fix this, add a bit more detergent to your washing. If it is still there, the cloudiness is being caused by etching. Here, you need to stop pre-washing your products in the dishwasher and use a bit less detergent. Also, realize that fine crystal should not be put into the dishwasher.
  • Every two months, clean your dishwasher by adding vinegar to a washing cycle that has no dishes in it. Do not use any detergents here.
  • Use rinse aids in your washing. These are ideal to help you to get the best clean possible. But, if you have a water softener, do not use them. It is necessary to decrease the amount of detergent that you use here as well. Go with the dry formula as it will work more accurately and allow you to monitor it better than the liquid can.
  • Gels for dishwashing detergents are commonly used but may not be the right choice. Many contain bleach in them which causes destruction of the inner rubber seals. They can cloud your glass or leave a film on them. They are hard to rinse off and they do not always work well in hard water either. Use a powdered detergent.
