How To Organize Your Bathroom
Many of us live such busy, hectic lives that we barely have time to manage ourselves, let alone organize our homes! And, when it comes to organizing the bathroom, it’s easy to find an excuse not to! However, when you stop and think, you know what influence a cluttered bathroom has in your life. It is important to bite the bullet, roll up your sleeves, and organize your bathroom!
Here is some simple advice to make bathroom organizing less of a chore.
Pick up the clutter, then put “like things” together (hair products, cosmetic bottles, personal care items). After using, it doesn’t take any more effort to put them back where they belong than to set them out of place. It takes just a few moments to make your bathroom look clean and well organized. Seeing your counters tidy makes you feel better, too!
Picture the opposite – a cluttered bathroom with shampoo bottles all over, towels and bathrobes in a heap on the floor … bits of paper spilling from the wastebasket. Not a pretty picture, right? It fact, it can be downright depressing!
Bathroom Organizing Tips:
Using these tips as a guideline, you’ll be able to get your bathroom organized and keep it that way.
Gather your tools:
- Cleaning rags
- Cleaning products
- Two cardboard or plastic storage boxes to sort items
- A plastic turn-table
Step by step organization:
- Place the two boxes on the floor.
- Pull the drawers from the cabinets and empty everything in them into the boxes.
- Collect everything from the cupboards and counters into the boxes, including soap, deodorant and toothbrushes. Clear every surface: cupboards, counters, drawers, shelves and place it all into the boxes.
- After you have removed all of the items from the drawers and cabinets, clean them completely by first brushing or wiping out debris that has accumulated, then spraying with a cleaner and/or a sanitizer and wiping until clean and dry.
- Spray a cleaning solution directly on a clean rag and wipe dust and built up scum from each article until it is clean.
- Begin replacing the items. Be sure to put only essential items in the medicine cabinet – only those which you cannot live without.
- Organize your items systematically; make separate sections for cosmetics, hair items, shaving supplies, nail care, etc.
- Put some decorative items on the counter top but don’t overdo it! Avoid breakables, especially in homes with small children.
- Put the turn-table in a cabinet under the sink to hold all bathroom cleaning supplies. By using the turntable, you can easily access the things you need – this certainly helps to keep your bathroom organized.
- If you don’t already have one, consider using a ring-shaped towel holder instead of a bar; the ring takes less space. You can also mount a clothes-hanging hook on the top of your bathroom door to hang bathrobes, night clothing, etc
- Place shower caddies on the wall of the shower to keep items like shampoo, soaps, razors, etc., in one place.
- Keep a squeegee inside the shower stall. Use it to wipe down the walls after each shower to help keep water spots and scum from forming.
- If your bathroom is small, install shelves above the toilet for extra storage space.
- Throw away expired medications, empty (or almost empty) bottles and containers, any item that you will not use anymore. Keep only essential items!
Keeping Your Bathroom Organized:
- Keep it up! Put things back where they belong every time you use them. Every other day, give it the once-over to be sure things are not out of place. Taking a little extra time now and then helps keep your bathroom organized all the time!
- A good rule to follow is “when it doubt, throw it out” – especially with expiration dates on products that deteriorate and lose potency over time. (Old bottles of vitamins or first aid ointments fit this description.)
- Be responsible! Don’t shirk these responsibilities – after every use, return items to their respective places.
Organizing The Bathroom Is A Family Affair:
Keeping an orderly bathroom is not just a task for one person. If every member of your family doesn’t pick up after themselves, it’s hard to keep the bathroom clean. Each person should have their own space to keep personal care items. This helps avoid clutter and messes, and keeps your bathroom organized and comfortable.
An organized and clean bathroom always smells fresh and looks inviting. It gives you a light-hearted feeling that lingers throughout the day.
