Evaluate The Blood Stained Material

First of all, you have to evaluate the item to determine what type of material it is made out of. This is because you’ll utilize different types of removal methods for different types of material. For instance, the methods you may use to remove blood off a cotton dress would be entirely different from removing stain off carpet.

Use The Right Stain Removal Supplies

Second, make sure that you have the right supplies which include hydrogen peroxide, shampoo (no conditioner added), pH neutral detergent (no bleaches), salt, scrubbing brushes with nylon bristles, paper towels, and clean rag towels.

Know The Different Stain Removal Methods

Third, now that you know the type of material that has been stained and have the right stain removal supplies, you are now ready to begin the removal process using these suggested stain removal techniques:

Blood Stain Removal From Washable Fabric

  1. Immerse item in strong salt water or keep changing the salt water until it is clear. Rinse the item in cold water. Wash as directed.
  2. Use approximately 2 teaspoons of ammonia with a pint of cold water and a few drops of hydrogen peroxide and rinse it with cold water. Wash as directed.
  3. Add a bit of stain removal and shampoo while rubbing the soiled portion until the shampoo is completely absorbed and then briskly scrub it until the stain is removed. Wash as directed.

Stain Removal on Non Washable Fabric

For non-washable fabric, you should add a few drops of ammonia to a cold water sponge, clean the area in a circular motion, working away from the eye of the stained spot until it is clear of stain, and then carefully rinse with a clean sponge. If the stain remains, take it to the dry cleaners.

Suede and Leather Stains

It is not suggested that you clean suede or leather. Instead go immediately to the dry cleaners so they can remove the stain.

Blood Stains on Carpet

Blot out as much of the stain with a white paper towel and then neutralize the stain by spraying it with 1 tablespoon of household ammonia and 1/2 cup of water. Next, blot it with a white paper towel to remove extra moisture. Then, apply a small amount of detergent (carpet spot cleaning mixture or your own with 1/4 teaspoon of hand washing detergent) then work it into the area and blot until the spot is removed. Next, fill a spray bottle with clean water and then spray the spot. Blot it again to remove moisture. Then, spray it once again but don’t blot it. Instead cover it with paper towel and let it dry. If you find that the stain isn’t removed yet, you can try adding a bit of peroxide, let it stand for about an hour and then blot again until the stain lifts.

Remove Blood Stains on Mattresses and Furniture

To remove blood from mattresses and furniture, you should add a bit of hydrogen peroxide to the stain. Once you apply the peroxide, you’ll notice that it bubbles and that a white foamy substance develops. Once it does, you can remove the foamy substance with a towel and your stain will be removed. If needed, repeat the procedure.

In conclusion, removing blood from many items doesn’t have to be a daunting task. By following the above mentioned steps, you can remove even the peskiest stains and save your valued item.
