That's a good point gustav, if the particulates won't come out with regular vacuuming, then they won't just float out at any time and flare up people's allergies. Hepa vacuums are definitely the way to go. Just make sure your vacuum has a true hepa filter - there's a difference in the quality and rating of hepa filters. You can look up the difference on the internet. However, I think that there is still some benefit associated with carpet cleaning for allergy sufferers. Depending on the severity of one's allergies, even if 95% of the allergens are removed, the other 5% can still cause problems. It's hard to believe that people can have such bad allergies, but some people really have quite sensitive systems. As dust mites are one of the most common allergens triggering problems, carpet cleaning with a disinfectant can kill these mites. I would recommend using Benefect which is an EPA registered disinfectant made from thyme oil.
