Carpet Cleaning Tips

Carpet cleaning isn't such a big chore as long as you ensure that supplies and machinery are safe for the carpet and the individual who does the cleaning is qualified. Also determine the frequency of surface cleaning as well as deep cleaning.

Generally, surface cleaning using a vacuum cleaner is recommended once a week and deep cleaning is recommended once a year. However, if there is a lot of foot traffic on the carpet, there are pets in the household, and the carpet is located near a source of constant dust, it is a good idea to surface clean and deep clean more frequently.

Most manufacturers say that it is good to clean frequently rather than infrequently, to protect carpet fibers. Most professional cleaners also recommend frequent cleaning so that those who use the carpet are not exposed to dust and other allergens. In fact, if moisture tends to get accumulated in the carpet, it can even become a breeding ground for germs.

While choosing the cleaning method, it is important to identify the fiber. For instance, a carpet made from coarse synthetic fibers is a low maintenance product, and in most cases, can be shampooed without damaging the carpet. However, a carpet made from soft natural fibers, such as wool, is a high maintenance product, and can be damaged if the cleaning agent used to clean it is strong, or the machine used to clean it has a hard brush, which rotates at a very high speed. In fact, therefore, a powerful machine is not always the most appropriate choice.

Therefore, carpet cleaning machines as well as accessories need to be selected carefully. The cleaning supplies and the cleaning method should also be selected carefully. Cleaning supplies should be mild so that they neither harm the carpet nor the person who will be using them. A strong cleaning agent can damage the carpet fibers. The cleaning method used should ideally match the manufacturer's recommendation.

I have a problem with carpet cleaning companies, because they inject a lot of water into carpet. They saturate not only the carpet, but also padding under the carpet. It takes a long time for carpets to dry and if you do it to often could stretch carpet and you will have ugly wrinkles. High traffic areas should be shampooed more often, however to call cleaning service just for that is to expensive. I found solution after Kirby salesman showed up at my door. He demonstrated all benefits of owning a Kirby, but I was most impressed with Kirby Shampooer. It uses 95% dry foam and carpet drys in 30-45 minutes. However it costs over $2,000. My budget didn't allow me to spent such amount for Vacuum, even if it is the best. Fortunately I was able to find a website where I was able to get the same Kirby Sentria for $600.00. I love my new Kirby.

I never had my house so clean. Highly recommend!!!

Dry powder cleaning is a great alternative to hot water extraction. Just keep in mind, it is more for people who are very clean or maintain their carpets regulary. For people with children and especially pets, I would recommend hot water extraction, to fully flush and sanitize the carpet.

Cleaning is a very tough task as far as my opinion is concerned especially carpet cleaning. Carpets are something that can not be afforded by everyone or can not be replaced frequently, So I recommend professional cleaner instead of doing it by own.

Nice one.

Carpets are indeed a valuable asset of your home. Besides the regular cleaning done at home, ie, the surface cleaning using vaccum cleaners, the health benefits of a clean carpet make it mandatory that you give them the right priority and send them off for a deep clean. Carbonation or steam clean, the carpet cleaning professionals should know the right treatment done to the fabric.

Besides that, one should best avoid buying just any product that you come across. They could really harm your carpet fabrics and destroy the longevity in the long run.

I have decided to clean my carpet once a month with a proper cleaner. Hoovering is fine for getting up excess dirt, but it doesn't do anything with the trodden in grime. Can anyone recommend the best cleaner for a thorough clean?

Hello,
here are some good carpet cleanng tips.
Vacuuming is necessary basically in areas of heavy traffic. Doing this prolongs the life of your carpet.
Do not use an iron or a hair dryer to dry a carpet stain, this can make the stain permanent.
Take care of the spills quickly to maintain a clean carpet. This can be done by simple water also. You can use cleaning products to remove the spots and spills.
Make sure to deep clean your carpet. To have a clean carpet, you need to have it either cleaned by a professional carpet cleaner or you will need to use a deep cleaning machine.

Thanks and regards,

I read the first reply to this thread and was in 100% agreeance with the poster. They had said they don't like professional carpet cleaners because they inject too much water into the carpet. Where I work we have a professional carpet cleaner come in. I watch them clean and from what I see, professional carpet cleaners are there to get the job done to get to the next customer. And just because they get the job done doesn't ean they are getting it done right. They seem hurried and unconcerned if they miss any areas. Granted this is an office I am in and not a home - maybe it is different in houses. But I also did see that water left behind. Just because something is wet doesn't mean it is clean. And who knows how much, or what kind of solution they have in their cleaners. With the economy in it's current state, they may be lessening the amount of solution in the tanks to save money. And money itself is a whole issue with professionals. I can rent a rug doctor for $50 and buy a 2.5 gallon cube of Genesis 950 for $38 and make my carpets and rugs look professionally cleaned on my own. I think doing it yourself is more practical, more economical and more gratifying. You can control what is being applied to your carpet, and you can ensure everything is done evenly with no rush.

Carpets need to be vacuumed once a week and more often in areas of heavy traffic. Frequent vacuuming prolongs the life of your carpet by preventing a buildup of gritty particles that can cut carpet fibers. Every few weeks, take a little extra time and use your crevice tool for cleaning around baseboards and radiators and in other hard-to-reach places.
To vacuum wall-to-wall carpeting, divide the floor into quadrants and vacuum an entire quadrant before moving on to the next.
Take your time when you vacuum a carpet, especially a plush carpet in which dirt is sure to be deeply embedded. One pass with a high-powered upright is not enough. Go over each section of carpeting several times, and work slowly to allow the suction to remove all the ground-in dust and dirt.
Pay special attention to the areas where people sit and move their feet. Vacuum these areas of heavy traffic with a crisscross pattern of overlapping strokes.
Soil retardants can be applied to new carpets or to newly cleaned carpets. Follow manufacturers' advice. Apply soil retardants only with professional equipment using the recommended application techniques.
Add baking soda to the bag in your vacuum to fight odors.

I heard about Drytech carpet cleaning company which is good. Their cleaners provide you with the best advice upon inspecting your carpet. They offer a wide variety of cleaning services whether you need to clean your home, office, mattress, rug and others. I have used their services for my mattress, now my mattress is clean and stain free, there are just awesome!

I agree that carpets have to be vacuumed once a week but you need to be careful with shampooing because if you do it too frequently it can destroy the carpets as well. You need to find an ideal balance. Once or twice a year should be enough
