ceramic tile

Postby Zanya » Sat May 30, 2009 12:42 pm

I have ceramic tile floors in my kitchen. I also have heavy wooden chairs with metal gliders. Over time, the gliders have made black marks on the tile that I can't seem to remove. I have used glue backed felt tips to cover the metal gliders to keep from getting more marks, but I still have to remove the marks that are already there. Does anyone have a solution?

Zanya,
Thank you for your post on the black marks on the ceramic tile in your kitchen.

Sometimes stains on tile can be tricky to remove. Before trying to remove the black marks, vacuum your floor to remove any surface dirt.

I have included a homemade tile cleaner that is posted on our site for you to look at. You may also try a magic eraser to remove the black stain as they typically work great on these types of marks. With either of these solutions, it may take a few times of rubbing to get it completely off. I hope this helps you in finding a solution to your stain.

Keeping the pads on the chairs is a great idea.

This is a great homemade tile and grout cleaner that is safe for frequent use. It also works well for removing soap scum and cleaning tile counters. As this recipe will work well for use on your ceramic tiles, never use vinegar an marble as the acids (mild as they may be) will damage marble.

1/2 cup baking soda
1/3 cup ammonia
1/4 cup white vinegar
7 cups water

Combine all of the above items into a spray bottle and shake well to mix thoroughly. Do not use this with chlorine bleach. Never mix ammonia and bleach products as a poisonous gas will result. Just spray it on the tile or grout and then wipe it dry with a paper towel or a clean cloth.

Please check back with us to let us know how this works for you.

Thanks again for posting.
