Cigarette smell in garage

Postby corina » Tue Jun 07, 2011 1:30 pm

My father in law is a handyman and works quite a bit in our garage. Unfortunately he smokes. I've tried to remove cigarette odor/smell in my garage using these tips, http://www.housecleaningcentral.com/en/ ... odors.html but I still smell it.

Thanks for any help.

Hello Corina,

To start things off I would ask your father in law if he could please smoke outdoors. Let him know it's healthier for you and your family (especially if you have kids).

These are all good tips that you are using but unless you ask him to stop smoking in the garage, the smell will never go away. Once he starts to smoke outdoors, then use those cleaning tips and get your garage smelling nice and clean.

A few other things you can try are:

Cat Litter:
Get a bag of cat litter and a few small buckets. Fill them partially with the cat litter and place them around the garage. Cat litter will help to absorb odors.

Change Filters:
If your heater unit is in the garage, change the filters.

Oxonator Air Purifier:
If you don't feel the need for purchasing one of these units, they can be rented. An oxonator will purify the air and remove all odors.

i have heart that if you light a candle in the room it will kill the cigarette smell. Try it!

I have seen that vacuuming with baking soda always helps. I have tried few times. It takes time but this reduce to a great extent.

I had been using charcoal and baking soda in this matter, however if these dynamic duo wont work, i chose to use my airfreshener specially when i need to make the air smell better for those unexpected visitors.
