Cleaning Furniture Fabric

Postby christine » Fri Dec 12, 2008 3:10 pm

Hello Mrs. Clean.

We have been renovating inside our home and there is sheetrock & other dust all over. I am searching for an easy way to clean my fabric furniture (couch & reclining chairs).

Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you.

Hi Christine,
Your vacuum and attachments are the best bet to clean the dust off your furniture. Any moisture or cleaning sprays will cause the sheet rock and other construction dust to become embedded in the fabric.

Make sure that your vacuum is in good working condition, the bag is not full and the filters are clean. The fine dust will clog your vacuum's filters quickly so you want to make sure that you have plenty of suction when you get started.

Using your upholstery attachments, vacuum all surfaces, including the cushions, back, sides and in the crevices. You can use the brush attachment, but that will tend to throw dust around, causing you to have to vacuum and dust more.

Depending on the level of dust, I'd be inclined to use the crevasse attachment, or dispense with the attachments entirely and use the hose alone. The idea is to have a very strong suction and remove even the finest particles.

With any type of dust cleaning projects, remember to start from the highest point and work your way down.

Good luck with your cleaning project!
