Disposing of good items

Postby flyingsolo » Tue Dec 08, 2009 3:51 pm

I've done the decluttering and tossed, recycled, etc. Problem is I have two bags of good clothes worn only a couple of times. The nearest Goodwill is about a 40 min. drive. I feel I should donate to Goodwill but two months later I still have the bags. I feel guilty about taking the clothes to the dump. Should I? My house is small and I'm tired of moving the bags about. Help ??

Hello Flyingsolo,
Thank you for checking in with Mrs. Clean to find out what to do with your used clothing items.

I wouldn't toss the clothing just yet as there are a lot of people in need of items like this in all our communities.

You could try and call some churches in the area - if it isn't convenient for you to travel, maybe they can come out and pick up the clothing. Do you have an Elks or Lions club in your town? If so, maybe they will come out and pick them up.

Other possibilities might be to check with a local school or radio station and check your local yellow pages.

If all else fails you can post them on craigslist. If you get someone who wants to take them and you are not comfortable with them coming directly to your home and they are willing to take them sight unseen; you could maybe leave them at the end of the driveway.

We hope these ideas give you help with places to look, it is good of you to tray and find someone who can use them.
