Ear wax on towels

Postby Eve006.75 » Wed Apr 09, 2008 9:53 am

Yes I Know it's yuk and I've looked on dozens of web sites and 4 of my cleaning tips books but nowhere can I find the answer to this.

a) How to remove the waxyness of the substance

and b) how to remove the yellowness of it

I've nagged the person in question to please clean their ears out before bathing and to not use the towel on their ears after bathing but to no avail!

So far I've tried an Oxygel, Fairy washing up liquid neat, and ordinary enzyme wash powder.

Do I do a hot, or warm wash?

It's ruining my towels

Thanks in advance

Hello Eve006.75 and Welcome to Mrs. Clean's Forum!
Yes, ear wax can leave unsightly stains on cotton bath towels. Not to worry though, there are ways to remove them.
Try these tricks:
Dab a few drops of liquid dish detergent directly onto the soiled areas (Dawn works great!) and rub the soap into the spots. Use the towel itself to briskly scrub the detergent into the stains, working the soap into a foamy lather. Let it sit and allow the soap to penetrate the affected areas for 24 hours, then wash as usual in warm water.
That should remove the waxy substance embedded in the material. If the discoloration remains, you can dab a little hydrogen peroxide on the area and allow it to dry. Then wash the towels as usual and this time all traces of the earwax should be gone.
If any trace of the stain remains you can repeat the process.
Good luck and let me know how it turns out!
