Organization & Home Cleaning Tips

Cleaning and Storage: All the tips you need to have a fresh start

Your Ornaments and other Decorations
- Store ornaments correctly using plastic wrap, tissue paper or old newspaper. Even though the bubble wrap will
take much more space it will better preserve delicate ornaments for the next time.
- This is a good opportunity to get rid of those items you no longer use and buy new ones you will find them on
sale throughout January. It will be a nice surprise to open them next year!

China, Silverware and Trays
- Organize your china and silverware and store properly for future use. While you organize make an inventory of
the china and crystal you have for your next celebration.
- Polish your silver and store it wrapped correctly to avoid oxidization.
- If silver trays or dishes are stored one on top of the other protect them with a special cloth to prevent scratches.

Leftover Food
- To prevent odors and better preserve your food, store your leftovers covered inside your refrigerator or freezer.
- Plan what to do with leftovers. I love inventing new recipes, however storing in the refrigerator or freezer gives you
a bit more time to include them in family meals.

Pots and Pans
- The best cleaner is a homemade paste with vinegar salt and shortening. The vinegar will remove grease and the
salt and shortening will eliminate all residue leaving your pots and pans spotless!

Your Kitchen: All the tips you need to know to clean and deodorize your kitchen appliances with what you already have at home.

Refrigerator and Freezer
- Clean and organize your refrigerator and freezer separately. Use either dishwashing liquid or baking soda and
warm water.
- Wipe the jars and other containers. Organize them by type.

The Fridge Doors
- To wipe the exterior depends on the finish the doors have.
- Use a stainless steel cleaner if appropriate. Use dishwashing liquid first then rinse and dry before applying
the cleaner.
- If the doors are lacquer or wood user cloth with a few drops of dishwashing liquid and water, then rinse with a
wet cloth and dry.

Cleaning the Oven/ Smell the Vanilla!
- Use dishwashing liquid and water, baking soda and water or oven cleaner. Be careful since some oven cleaners
have toxic fumes that can be dangerous when inhaled.
- Use vanilla extract in your conventional oven by putting some on a rag or cotton cloth for the interior.
- Remember that self -cleaning ovens need to be heated first. Once they are cooled down wipe with a damp cloth.

Tiptop Stove Tops
- For gas stoves use either dishwashing liquid and water or mild abrasive cleaner and a metal sponge
(if manufacturer’s recommends so).
- For electric stoves remove the residue, clean with dishwashing liquid and water and proceed rinsing with a wet
cleaning cloth, then apply the electric stove the electric stove cleaner and rub until cream turns to powder.

The Microwave
- Clean the microwave with dishwashing liquid and water.
- White vinegar is another option and you can the change the smell by spraying a small amount of vanilla extract into
the microwave.

Reminders:

- When cleaning your house, always follow a cleaning schedule alternating deep cleaning with daily maintenance.
- Include all family members in the process -make this the year to get the kids and hubby involved.

Oh good tips, however for the leftover food i like to use different containers for some food that is not good to be left in the freezer ( the one that you want warm and that can last longer ).

Also make sure to use containers with the lid's and that way you won't attract ants and other insects if there are any. I guess this is common sense just wanted to add in case someone stores bread in the fridge for example and usually people don't like their bread to be cold each time its in the fridge...

There are specific bread-boxes and containers and i personally like to have a food compartment where i store all my food that is not in the fridge, but if there are any crumbs or anything like that i would clean it immediately.

Great tips. Sometimes though it is hard to find the time and have the supplies to get some of the toughest cleaning work done. If you find you need additional help, hiring a house cleaner can eliminate headaches when the work overwhelms you.
