How to eliminate odors

Postby dezira30 » Fri Aug 07, 2009 6:41 pm

My problem is very very spoiled sweet potatoes in the cabinet. They were still in the bag, but it doesn't seem to have helped... I'm just VERY thankful that I kept them in the bag. The smell has permeated the wood and the other paper/bread/plastic products in the same cabinet. I've been using newspaper with some improvement, but not enough to eliminate it in 6 days. Have you ever run across this at all? We've sprayed also... with very little luck... please help us!

thanks,
Des and Jace

I had a similar problem with spoiled bananas. It was like we were haunted by dead, rotten bananas forever! Baking soda helped, vinegar in a bowl was better, but you kept having to change them. I found a product called the Gonzo Odor Eliminator that worked great long-term. I bought another one to deal with the catbox smell, too.

Des and Jace,

Welcome to the forum.

We can help you out with the lingering spoiled sweet potato odor. It may take a few applications, but eventually you should be able to conquer the problem.

Vinegar and Water:

Wearing gloves to protect your hands, use a 50-percent vinegar and water solution. After it dries follow with a baking soda mixture; about one-half cup soda to 2 cups water, let this sit awhile before wiping down. Wipe down using very hot water.

Vinegar and baking soda are natural odor removers; and will not harm any food items you return to the cabinet.

I hope this helps you in your search to get your room smelling fresh again.
