Oil from dogs skin on sofa

How to remove inorganic stains. Inorganic stains come from material that is not from a living organism such as lime and mineral deposits, rust, soap scum, and stains from chemicals.

Oil from dogs skin on sofa

Postby puli » Sun Oct 05, 2008 2:06 pm

I have a large dog who rubs her back against the sides of our soft - it appears the oil from her skin is left on the upholstery, as there's a slight discoloration in the area where she rubs. The cleaning instructions that came with the softa say to use mild water-free cleaning agend or use a waterbased cleaning agent or dry cleaning solvent or foam type cleaner.

Any suggest on what I can use to clean my sofa?

Hello puli,
Welcome to the Mrs. Clean Forum!
Yes, pets can leave stains in so many places!
Try these tricks to remove those oily stains and get your sofa looking great again:
• Sprinkle cornstarch on the affected area, and then place a dry paper towel on the cornstarch. Let it rest for a few hours. This will ‘draw up’ the oils in the fabric. If the stains are on the sides of the sofa, you will need to flip the sofa up.
• You may want to try a product line called Procyon. They make an excellent carpet and upholstery cleaner. I have had amazing results with everything I have used it on! All of their products are soap free, non toxic, and environmentally safe. Procyon cleaners are available in many retail stores and online.
• A foaming carpet and upholstery cleaner like Resolve, may also work for these kinds of stains. You just spray the foam on and vacuum it up, taking the stain with it. This product is not safe for all fabrics, though, so do be careful!
As always, be sure to test these tricks on an inconspicuous area first.
Good luck, and let me know how it turns out!
