OLD CARPET STAINS

Postby BusyMom » Thu Jan 21, 2010 8:22 pm

I need help... We are moving out of our apartment and it is being shown in a few days. I have some old stains on the carpet. The carpet is a cream color. The stains are mainly brownish in color. I know I have a stain or two from juice, but some of them I'm not sure about. Any ideas that I can try would be greatly appreciated. I've tried resolve and dish soap, which was not the best idea.

Busy mom,
Getting stains out of carpet that are already set can be a tough job. When using these solutions remember to blot the area rather than scrubbing it to avoid damaging/fraying carpet fibers.

Test any stain removal method on a hidden seam or spot that will not show. You want to make sure it does not change the color of the carpet.

It’s not recommended to use detergent or soap on carpet. It’s impossible to remove soap residue completely, and this residue will attract additional staining over time.

Check out half way down on this page under coffee stain on carpet. Follow the instructions using cold water and medicinal strength hydrogen peroxide.

I hope this helps you in removing the stains on your carpet.
Thank you,
Mrs. Clean

Old settled in stains can be really challenging to take off. The best you could do is to rely on a carpet cleaning professional and they should have the job done for you with the treatment factoring in the fabric and the type of stain.

You want to act as fast as possible when you notice a stain, but if the stain has been there for weeks or even months, it will be difficult to remove. For liquids, this has worked best for me: Put your liquid cleaning agent on the stain, place a rag or towel over it, and punch it with your fist until the cleaning agent is absorbed. This should help remove at least part of the stain.
