Pine sol stains on dry wall

Postby viglad » Sun Apr 03, 2011 1:41 pm

I have been spraying my bathroom sinks with pine sol, but now I notice yellow stains on the dry wall behind the sinks, which I assume to be pine sol. Have tried various things, but nothing seems to work to take these out. Help.

Welcome viglad,

You don’t mention the type of paint on the bathroom wall; I’m guessing it’s the paint typically used which is a semi-gloss or glossy paint?

Here are a couple of suggestions you can try to remove the yellow staining. Use one or the other, do not use these methods together, don’t use abrasives, use caution and be careful to avoid damaging the paint.

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser

I would slightly dampen the eraser, don’t hold it under the faucet like you do a sponge, just trickle water over the area you will be using. Wipe down the wall with the magic eraser. Repeat as needed.

Hydrogen Peroxide
Using just the 3% grade from the grocery store, wipe down the area of the wall that is yellowing. Hydrogen peroxide will turn to water in the light, so if you have a bathroom window, this might be best to do at night. You will probably need to do this method several times.

Natural Sunlight
If you do have a bathroom window and the yellow wall gets direct light – it just may fade after time.

Thanks, Mrs. Clean. Guess this should have been posted under the stains section. I'm new on this site and trying to find my way around. Anyway, not sure of the finish on my dry wall. It is a standard mobile home finish - maybe vinyl? The bathroom walls do not have direct sunlight. Did try hydrogen peroxide, but only once. It didn't do anything the first time, but may need to keep trying that. Also have not tried the Magic Eraser. Thanks so much for the suggestions.
