Red candle wax stain on a red sofa

How to remove inorganic stains. Inorganic stains come from material that is not from a living organism such as lime and mineral deposits, rust, soap scum, and stains from chemicals.

Red candle wax stain on a red sofa

During a recent power outage I spilled red candle wax on my white leather sofa. My husband got all the wax off but it left a slight red stain. I would love to get this stain out and any suggestions would be great! Thanks so much.

Hello Louieanne,

First I would suggest not to use water based cleaning solutions as the leather may only absorb it.

One suggestions for you to try would be:

Unscented Talcum Powder or Corn Starch:
Either one of these act as an absorbent and may lift the remaining stain.
Apply either one of these to the stained area.
Rub briskly with your fingers until you feel heat from the friction.
Let sit for a couple of hours before wiping off the powder.

You could also purchase a leather cleaner conditioner and protectant and follow the manufacturer's suggested application method.

Another note of interest is the stain may lighten with time as the leather absorbs it.

If you are not comfortable doing any further cleaning on your couch, contact a professional.
