Hi Janh

Gel candles are made from mineral oils and plastic polymers. So unfortunately the methods you tried above would not work effectively as it is not candle wax.

Try using an oil based solvent such as Goop. Goop can be purchased at a local auto parts store.

Rub the Goop into the affected area. Then use a steam cleaner with cold water to suck the remaining goo from the gel candle up.

NOTE: When rubbing the goop into your carpet don't rub too hard, you don't want to fray the carpet fibers.

Always remember to test in an inconspicuous spot prior to trying anything new.

freeze the wax with an ice cube once the wax is frozen, use a clean, blunt object to shatter the wax immediately pick up or vacuum the pieces of wax from the area
