silicone gel on sofa fabric

How to remove inorganic stains. Inorganic stains come from material that is not from a living organism such as lime and mineral deposits, rust, soap scum, and stains from chemicals.

silicone gel on sofa fabric

Postby chocsoymilk » Sat Aug 30, 2008 6:22 pm

Dog chewed hair brush handle up on sofa. It had silicone gel in it to make it easy to grip. Now it's smeared into the fabric. I have Scotchgarded the fabric.

Any suggestions?

Sorry to repeat post, but I didn't see the stain removal forum until after I'd posted originally.

Thanks in advance.

Hi chocsoymilk,
Welcome to the Mrs. Clean Forum!
I would like to offer some advice, but first, can you tell me what kind of fabric is covering the sofa?

Thanks Mrs. Clean.

It's some kind of printed fabric. I'm pretty certain it's cotton. The dyes are printed on, not weaved in. The colors are very rich and the dominant color is red.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello chocsoymilk,
I'm sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, somehow I missed your reply to my question!
It sounds like you’ve got some tough stains embedded into your sofa.
Try these tricks to remove those silicone stains:

• You might want to try a citrus based cleaner on the stains. A good citrus based cleaner / degreaser may help to break up the silicone and separate it from the fabric. (Just be sure to test a small hidden area of the fabric to check for color removal.)
• There is an impressive product line that is worth a try called Procyon. They make an excellent carpet and upholstery cleaner. I have had amazing results with everything I have used it on! All of their products are soap free, non toxic, and environmentally safe. Procyon cleaners are available in many retail stores and online.
• Resolve also makes a good foaming carpet and upholstery cleaner, which may work on these kinds of stains. This product is not safe for all fabrics, though, so do be careful!

As always, be sure to test these tricks on an inconspicuous area first.
If your stains persist, you may need to have it cleaned professionally.
Good luck, and let me know how it turns out!
