Stain on Cotton Sweater from Wooden Rack

How to remove inorganic stains. Inorganic stains come from material that is not from a living organism such as lime and mineral deposits, rust, soap scum, and stains from chemicals.

Stain on Cotton Sweater from Wooden Rack

Postby library » Wed Feb 07, 2007 9:56 am

I couldn't find a fix to this anywhere; I would love the help.

I have a light pink cotton sweater that has a wide yellowish stain all across it from a wooden clothes dryer rack. The sweater was put on the rack while still wet, I guess, and the unfinished wood color bled through. It happened weeks ago and it has just been put aside until I can figure out how to remove the stain.

How can I remove this without using any major, evil chemicals? I won't use them. Thanks.

PS: Let this be a warning to all! Yikes.

Removing die from cotton

Postby mrscleannw » Wed Mar 14, 2007 1:51 pm

Hi Library, Welcome to Mrs Clean.

My first step would be to try using medical strength, (available at the drug store) hydrogen peroxide.

Be sure to test a small, inconspicuous spot first before attempting the whole stain.

Hydrogen peroxide works as an excellent stain remover and is very inexpensive. It will not damage fabric and it actually converts to plain water when exposed to sunlight.

I had a large dark, dried on coffee stain on my light colored carpet and it worked wonders! Here's where I removed a large dark coffee stain using vinegar and hydrogen peroxide off an almost white carpet.

I'm certain, given enough time (not more than a day) using the peroxide treatment, that the stain will fade or even disappear! Here's more info to clean up hard to remove stains.

Good luck!
