Stinky washing machine

Postby Pinkpoms » Fri Jun 19, 2009 12:33 am

Hi guys, I am hoping someone can help me with a problem. I keep a lot of dogs and also foster them. Consequently we end up with a lot of wee and poo issues. We have one of those heavy duty mats by the patio and recently I had to wash it as it got really stinky. I normally wash them at work (dog groomers as the washing machine is used for dog towels). I had to use my own washing machine this time and now it really reeks! I put it on a full cycle with bleach in to clear out all the pipes etc but I can't get rid of the nasty smell. Any ideas please?

Hi Pink Poms....
Unfortunately bleach is not an odor eliminator...
There's a product called What Odor? that I've been using...first when I was housebreaking my basset...(he was very stubborn!!)
Now I use it for everything...really works. Just pour some into your washing machine and run it through the cycle.

This stuff actually does what it says it will!!

Pinkpoms,
Thank you for posting on the Forum. Cleaning up after our pets can be an endless job! We have some solutions you can try that will be available in the U.K.

You may want to try to remove the liquid softener dispenser (some of these are located on top of the agitator). It could possibly have an accumulation of lint, hair, and other debris in various parts of the dispenser.
You can use a toothbrush, q-tips, etc. to clean it out. If it is dirty it could be those little balls of gunk are absorbing the softener and throwing a residual of softener onto the clothes.

Baking soda works really well at absorbing foul smells. It is a natural deodorizer, mild abrasive (good for scrubbing)and many people use it in the refrigerator to absorb odors and keep it smelling fresh. You can run a cycle with baking soda into the water in your washing machine to help eliminate the order.

You can also try Vinegar. Vinegar is acidic, mild antibacterial and it cuts grease and deodorizes. It kills mold and mildew. We use vinegar at Mrs. Clean to quickly clean linoleum or hardwood floors quickly with no residue left behind. Note: Don't use this on marble or stone surfaces. Use it in the washing machine to clean out the drum and also remove any order.

I hope these solutions are helpful to you. Please post you’re the solution that worked best for you.
Have a great day,
Mrs Clean
