Tub & Shower

Postby Cpat » Sat Jan 08, 2011 2:01 pm

I have a tub/shower combination, the bottom of which is a non-slip surface with small erratic ridges. This is the part which is difficult to clean with a brush or sponge. Does anyone have a good solution for this?

Hello Cpat,

Standing in a shower with a dirty surface can be a bit unpleasant. Here is an inexpensive homemade cleaner you can try.

Get a one gallon bucket and fill it with hot water and add the following then mix well:
• 1 cup vinegar
• 1 cup ammonia
• ½ cup baking soda

Just as a side note do not mix any bleach in this recipe. Ammonia and bleach don’t mix well together and will produce a harmful gas.

Using your new cleaning agent; use a medium bristle length nylon scrub brush to scrub the shower floor, using in a circular motion. For tough to clean mildew and soap scum cover the drain so it doesn’t drain and allow the mixture to sit and soak for 20 – 30 minutes before scrubbing.

If you have a window in your bathroom, leave it cracked a little if you are leaving the mixture to soak.

Using a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser
These are great for many uses. Give it a try on your shower floor. If the shower floor is dry, slightly dampen the eraser and scrub in a circular motion. If the shower floor is already wet, just take the eraser and start scrubbing.
For either of these methods use a little elbow grease while scrubbing.
