Tuna oil on concrete

Postby joodyanne » Tue Oct 25, 2011 6:03 pm

The wind blew a plastic dish off a table outside which had the reside of tuna oil in it, and landed upside down on the concrete. So far all I have tried is pouring white vinegar on it.

Can anyone suggest a better option?

Hi joodyanne,

To remove the oil spot on concrete, give clay cat litter a try.

Using Cat Litter:

Pour enough cat litter over the oil stain to cover completely. With a bucket or something similar, cover so the wind doesn't blow the cat litter away or the rain doesn't wash it away.

The cat litter will soak up the oils from the tuna. This process will take some time and you will most likely have to renew the cat litter a time or two but it should clean up nicely.

If you get to a point where there is still a bit of oil stain left but the cat litter is not soaking any more up, you will have to rehydrate the stain.

Rehydrate the Stain:

This can be done by using a little WD-40 or Vegetable oil and rubbing it into the remaining stain. Once you have done this, use the cat litter again to lift the oil.
